Check the wire with multimeter. If the problem is the ground connection, you may not need to go as far till the front indicator. Ground should be a brown cable and indicator wire should be a black/brown cable for left side and black/green for right side. That said, the wire does not move around, so it should not be broken.

I do not need that. My advice: get yourself an AA battery powered LED torch and some cupboard lights. I must admit that my Mk4 does not have any "convenience module" so a simple fuse removal did the job. Maybe I'll connect the interior lighting back to the battery one day but for sure this won't be a starting battery.

Hold your foot on the brake pedal and start the engine the brake pedal should move down slightly which shows the vacuum is operating on the diaphragm. Keith.
